Onwa Disclaimer
Effective date: 30 July 2026
Version: 1.0
1. About this Disclaimer
Onwa is a UK-based book-circulation network connecting readers and helping physical books travel between people.
We aim to provide an enjoyable, reliable and transparent service. However, the nature of book circulation means that availability, reading times, delivery arrangements and individual reader participation can vary.
This Disclaimer explains the practical limitations of the Onwa website and service, and what readers should reasonably expect when participating.
It should be read alongside our Terms of Use and Privacy Notice.
Nothing in this Disclaimer removes or restricts any rights or protections provided by applicable UK law.
2. Who operates Onwa?
Onwa is operated by David Harper, trading as Onwa.
Onwa is based in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom.
Business operator: David Harper
Trading name: Onwa
General enquiries: hello@onwa.co.uk
Privacy enquiries: Privacy@onwa.co.uk
References to "Onwa", "we", "us" or "our" mean David Harper trading as Onwa.
3. The Onwa service
Onwa currently operates as an early-stage, limited readers' beta.
Our existing service is coordinated using the Onwa website, registration and circulation forms, operational records, email communications and selected third-party providers.
Although we take reasonable care in administering the service, readers should understand that:
-
books are supplied by participating readers rather than held in a central Onwa warehouse;
-
availability depends on the circumstances of the current reader;
-
book queues and circulation arrangements may change;
-
some processes require manual administration;
-
delivery times depend partly on external providers; and
-
technical or operational interruptions may occasionally occur.
Onwa will take reasonable steps to address problems within its control and provide the service with reasonable care and skill.
4. Book availability and waiting times
Books listed within the Onwa Library are not guaranteed to be immediately available.
A book may be held by another reader, requested by several people or temporarily unavailable because of its condition or circumstances.
Joining a book queue does not guarantee that you will receive the book or that it will become available within a particular period.
We encourage readers to enjoy books within a reasonable time and keep them circulating where other readers are waiting.
Where a queue exists, Onwa may send a polite check-in after approximately 50 days to establish whether the current reader is still reading and whether they require additional time.
The 50-day check-in is not a compulsory reading deadline.
Onwa does not guarantee fixed reading periods or onward-dispatch dates. We ask readers to communicate openly and make reasonable efforts to keep books moving.
Further information about reader responsibilities is available in our Terms of Use.
5. Book condition and reader contributions
Books circulating through Onwa are generally pre-loved physical books.
Their condition may vary depending on their age, previous ownership and reading history.
Onwa may rely on information supplied by readers when assessing book submissions, recording book condition or managing circulation.
Although we aim to maintain accurate records, we cannot guarantee that every book will remain in exactly the same condition throughout its journey.
Ordinary wear may occur during reasonable use.
If a book arrives in a materially different condition from that described, or has been lost or damaged, please contact Onwa so the circumstances can be investigated.
Readers remain responsible for providing honest information and taking reasonable care of books in their possession.
6. Postage, delivery and third-party services
Onwa coordinates the movement of books between readers using agreed delivery arrangements and third-party providers where appropriate.
Delivery services may be affected by:
-
postal or carrier delays;
-
adverse weather;
-
incorrect or incomplete delivery information;
-
parcel handling or sorting issues;
-
temporary service interruptions; or
-
circumstances beyond Onwa's reasonable control.
Estimated delivery dates are indicative unless expressly stated otherwise.
Onwa will take reasonable steps to assist readers when a delivery problem is reported and investigate matters within its responsibility.
The involvement of a third-party delivery provider does not remove any legal responsibility that Onwa owes to a reader.
Any applicable refund, cancellation or other consumer remedy will be considered in accordance with our Terms of Use and the law.
7. Circulation fees and payments
Onwa currently charges a £2.50 circulation fee for applicable book journeys.
This charge relates to the circulation service and does not represent the purchase price of the physical book.
Payments are processed using Stripe.
While Onwa aims to coordinate paid book journeys reliably, unexpected circumstances may occasionally prevent a journey from proceeding as originally planned.
If a paid journey cannot proceed, Onwa will review the circumstances and provide any refund or other remedy required by applicable law.
Onwa does not guarantee that making a circulation payment will result in delivery by a particular date.
Readers should review the relevant payment information and Terms of Use before making a payment.
8. Book Passports and journey information
Onwa's Book Passports are designed to record and celebrate the journeys of individual physical books.
They may include reading contributions, general locations, journey dates, distances travelled and other information supplied by participating readers or maintained through Onwa's operational records.
Although we aim to keep this information accurate, readers should understand that:
-
some information depends on confirmation from other readers;
-
journey records may take time to update;
-
locations may be approximate rather than precise;
-
distance calculations may be estimates;
-
historical information may be incomplete; and
-
physical or digital contributions may contain errors or personal opinions.
Book Passports are intended to provide an engaging record of a book's travels, not a guaranteed real-time parcel-tracking service.
Onwa may correct inaccurate information when identified and appropriately verified.
9. Reader-generated content and opinions
Onwa may publish or display material contributed by participating readers, including ratings, photographs, comments, reviews, testimonials and Book Passport entries.
These contributions reflect the experiences and opinions of their individual authors.
They do not necessarily represent the views or recommendations of Onwa.
Onwa does not endorse every opinion, claim or statement made by participating readers.
We may review, moderate, correct or remove material where reasonably necessary to protect readers, maintain the integrity of the service or comply with legal obligations.
If you believe that material published through Onwa is inaccurate, inappropriate or infringes your rights, please contact hello@onwa.co.uk.
10. Website information and accuracy
We aim to keep the information published on the Onwa website accurate, current and understandable.
However, content may occasionally contain errors, omissions or outdated information.
This may include information about:
-
available books;
-
current circulation activity;
-
queue and journey statistics;
-
estimated delivery arrangements;
-
service availability;
-
upcoming features; or
-
general operational guidance.
Website information may be updated as the service develops.
We will take reasonable steps to correct material inaccuracies when identified.
Information expressly provided as an estimate, illustration or general explanation should not be treated as a guarantee of a particular outcome.
Nothing in this section excludes responsibility for inaccurate or misleading information where applicable law makes that information binding or provides a remedy.
11. External websites and services
The Onwa website may contain links to third-party websites, delivery providers, payment services, social-media platforms or other external resources.
These organisations operate their own websites, systems and policies.
A link from Onwa does not necessarily mean that we endorse all content, opinions, products or services provided by the linked organisation.
Readers should review the relevant terms and privacy notices when using external services.
Onwa is not responsible for independent third-party content or actions where it has no legal responsibility for them.
This does not affect any responsibility Onwa may have in connection with third-party services used to fulfil its own obligations to readers.
12. Onwa branding and intellectual property
The Onwa name, original branding, logos, website content, illustrations, designs, written materials and other original creative works may be protected by copyright, trade-mark law or other applicable intellectual-property rights.
These rights belong to Onwa or the relevant third-party rights holders, as applicable.
Publication of material on the Onwa website does not automatically grant permission for its unauthorised commercial reproduction, distribution or use.
Readers and third parties should not present themselves as officially associated with, authorised by or endorsed by Onwa without permission.
Nothing in this Disclaimer claims exclusive ownership of general ideas, reading practices or business concepts that are not protected by law.
All applicable intellectual-property rights are reserved.
For enquiries about using Onwa's original materials, please contact hello@onwa.co.uk.
13. Service availability and changes
Onwa is an evolving service, and occasional changes may be necessary as we improve its operation.
We may update website content, maintenance arrangements, book-management procedures or other aspects of the service.
Temporary interruptions may occasionally occur because of maintenance, technical issues or third-party service disruption.
We will take reasonable steps to manage interruptions and communicate material service changes where appropriate.
Any changes affecting existing contractual rights or obligations will be handled in accordance with our Terms of Use and applicable law.
14. Liability and consumer rights
Onwa aims to provide its services with reasonable care and skill.
Readers acknowledge that book circulation involves independent participants, physical items and external delivery providers, and that not every outcome is within Onwa's control.
Onwa is not responsible for losses caused solely by circumstances for which it has no legal responsibility.
However, nothing in this Disclaimer excludes or restricts liability for:
-
death or personal injury caused by negligence;
-
fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
-
failure to exercise reasonable care and skill where required by law;
-
breach of statutory consumer rights; or
-
any other liability that cannot legally be excluded or restricted.
Where a reader experiences a problem with a paid Onwa service, their rights and available remedies will be assessed in accordance with applicable consumer law.
This Disclaimer does not replace or override those rights.
15. Changes to this Disclaimer
Onwa may update this Disclaimer to reflect changes to the website, circulation arrangements, service providers or applicable legal requirements.
The latest version will be published on the Onwa website with its effective date.
Where a change materially affects existing reader rights or obligations, it will be handled in accordance with the applicable Terms of Use and legal requirements.
